Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It covers the northern third of the island of Great Britain, with a border with England to the southeast, and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the northeast, the Irish Sea to the south, and more than 790 islands, including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides.

A holiday to Scotland this year will be fantastic because Scotland Is Now. Scotland is a friendly, passionate and innovative country and you'll see that clearly everywhere you go. It will boast a spectacular program of events and even more ways to explore all that Scotland has to offer, so you can make memories that will last a lifetime.

Climate

The climate of Scotland is temperate and oceanic and tends to be very changeable, but not normally extreme. It is warmed by the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic, and given its northerly latitude, it is warmer than areas on similar latitudes. Even though most of the country has a temperate climate, the northern islands and Highlands experience a type of weather close to the climate of the Faroe Islands or southern Norway.

Food

Scottish cuisine is the specific set of cooking traditions, practices and cuisines associated with Scotland. It has distinctive attributes and recipes of its own but shares much with wider British and European cuisine as a result of local and foreign influences, both ancient and modern.

Language

The languages of Scotland are the languages spoken or once spoken in Scotland. Each of the numerous languages spoken in Scotland during its recorded linguistic history falls into either the Germanic or Celtic language families. The classification of the Pictish language was once controversial, but it is now generally considered a Celtic language. Today, the main language spoken in Scotland is English, while Scots and Scottish Gaelic are minority languages. The dialect of English spoken in Scotland is referred to as Scottish English.
